- The most commonly used Hurricane shutters are storm panels that can be made of corrugated steel, aluminum, or plastic. They attach to the walls around windows and doors on bolts or tracks. While they are the most common, they are also the most work to put up each year unlike the following three options.
- Bahama shutters are one-piece louvered shutters that permanently attach directly above the windows and prop open to allow light in. Bahama shutters are storm-ready when lowered and secured to the wall.
- Accordion hurricane shutters permanently affix to the building beside the windows or doors. They manually unfold and lock together for protection.
- Roll down shutters permanently attach above the windows or doors. They roll up and store in an enclosed box when not in use. They are lowered either manually by a hand crank or automatically by push button, and lock in place for protection.
